tradition, Sun Island has organized a number of excursions
to the neighboring islands where the centuries old culture
and simple life style still remain unchanged.
The excursion guides would escort & assist you during these
trips that include tours to the local fishing villages,
tourist resorts, uninhabited islands, fishing and snorkeling
safaris etc.

Snorkeling
trips to nearby reefs are arranged daily. Snorkeling
equipments can be rented from the Diving Center at US$10.00
per day. Also these sets will be available to purchase from
the souvenir shop at the resort.
During the trip, please be careful that you may not break or
take away and walk on the reef which may damage the beauty
on the under water world. Law prohibits live coral & shells. |

Maamigili is a local island near Sun Island with a vibrant
population, mainly engaged in fishing. In fact, Mr. Qasim
Ibrahim, the Chairman of Villa Group is from this island and
still has strong connections in the island as well as close
relatives.
Dhangethi Island is a local fishing island but has been
transformed over the past few years into a special tourist
attraction by setting up a Tourist Visitor Centre in the
island. The island population has diversified their
activities and benefits greatly from this attention.
Tourists are warmly received to the island.
Visit to the neighboring islands are organized during the
week. From these trips you will witness the behavior and
culture of the Maldivian life style. Especially the cultural
center in Dhangethi is a must to be when you are in Ari
Atoll where you find the whole Maldivian locality and its’
craftsmanship.

Morning fishing is by Dhoni setting off before the sunrise
in order to attract the big ones. You will enjoy fishing in
Maldivian style where the boat crews will assist you with
line and bait to make a good catch on Snapper, Barracuda or
Grouper. Your catch of the day will be barbecued at the
“Guramul Grill”( barbecue Terrace) in the afternoon.
Night Fishing is by Dhoni from 1700hrs to 1900hrs. If you
wish to BBQ and taste the fish you can make the reservation
in Southern Star Restaurant (ext.6257) after the fishing. |

This fishing trip is more or less conducted in the Maldivian
style. The catch may include Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellow fin
tuna and blue, black & stripped marlin.
